Meet people nearby, not your whereabouts

BuzzUp shows you compatible people around you using approximate distance and shared interests — and never reveals where you actually are.

  • Approximate distance only
  • Exact location never shared
  • Free — no paywalls

How it works

Three steps to your first conversation

  1. Step 1

    Build your profile

Photos, a short bio and the interests that actually matter to you.

  2. Step 2

    Discover nearby

See people around you by approximate distance. Like or pass — your call.

  3. Step 3

    Match, then chat

Conversations only open when you both said yes. No unsolicited messages.

Others see “~2.5 km away”

Location privacy

Close enough to meet. Vague enough to be safe.

Most apps hand your coordinates to the client and hope nobody looks. We do the maths server-side, round the result, and send only that.

  • Your latitude and longitude never leave our servers.
  • Distance is bucketed before it is shown to anyone.
  • Hide your distance, your area, or your entire profile.
  • Delete your account and your data goes with it.

What you get

Everything that matters, nothing that nags

Distance, not coordinates

We calculate distance on our servers and round it before it ever reaches another member.

Shared-interest matching

Discover ranks people by what you have in common, not by who paid for a boost.

Mutual by design

A match needs two yeses. Until then, nobody can start a conversation with you.

Block that actually blocks

Blocking removes someone from your discovery, matches and messages instantly.

Reports reach moderators

Every report lands in a real moderation queue with an audit trail behind it.

Notifications you control

Turn email off per event type. In-app notifications stay in the app.

Questions, answered

Is BuzzUp really free?+

Yes. The whole product runs on free-tier infrastructure and there are no paid tiers, boosts or paywalled likes.

Can someone work out where I live?+

No. We store your coordinates encrypted at rest and only ever expose a rounded distance and an optional area name — both of which you can hide.

Who can message me?+

Only people you have matched with, which requires you to like them back. You can unmatch or block at any point.

What happens when I report someone?+

The report enters a moderation queue with a priority. A moderator reviews it, acts on it, and the outcome is written to an immutable audit log.
