Your precise location is used only to compute distance on our servers. It is never shown to other members and never returned by our public APIs.
Safety is not a feature
Blocking, reporting and moderation were built in the first week, not bolted on after something went wrong.
Free, and honest about it
No paid boosts, no paywalled likes, no dark patterns designed to make you upgrade.
Why we built it
Location-based dating works: proximity is genuinely useful when you want to actually meet someone. What does not work is the way most apps get there — shipping raw coordinates to the phone in your pocket and trusting that nobody will look.
So we moved the maths to the server, rounded the answer, and made the rounded answer the only thing anyone else can see. You can hide even that.
How we make decisions
- Collect less. If a feature needs data we would be uncomfortable losing in a breach, we look for another way to build it.
- Two yeses. Nobody can message you until you have liked them back.
- Reversible by you. Hide your profile, unmatch, block, or delete your account — all self-service.
Where we are
BuzzUp is young and openly a work in progress. Some screens say “coming soon” because we would rather ship them properly than fake them.
