Safety

Built to be safe, not just to feel safe

Safety tooling shipped with the very first version of BuzzUp. Here is what you can do, and what we do.

Block instantly

A blocked member disappears from your discovery, your matches and your messages — in both directions.

Report to real people

Reports enter a prioritised moderation queue. Moderators can suspend or ban accounts, and every action is audit-logged.

No unsolicited messages

Only members you have matched with can message you. Unmatch and the conversation closes.

Control your visibility

Hide your distance, hide your area, leave location-based discovery, or hide your profile entirely.

Our commitments

  • Your exact location is never shared with another member.
  • Only matched members can message each other.
  • Every report is reviewed by a moderator.
  • Photos may be reviewed and removed if they break the rules.
  • You must be 18 or older to use BuzzUp.

Staying safe when you meet

  • Meet in a public place the first few times, and tell a friend where you are going.
  • Keep conversations on BuzzUp until you are comfortable — do not share your number early.
  • Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you met online, whatever the story.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, unmatch and report — you owe nobody an explanation.

Reporting someone

Open their profile or your chat with them and choose Report. Pick a reason, add any detail you want a moderator to see, and submit. You can block them in the same place — you do not need to wait for the report to be reviewed.

In immediate danger?

Contact your local emergency services first. BuzzUp moderation is not an emergency service and cannot respond in real time.

Then report the account so we can act on it — see our terms.
